A BI (Basic Income) is not a bad idea, but a stand-alone Universal Basic Income (UBI) would fail to accomplish what most people think it would do, and instead is a Trojan horse for privatization of services and allowing employers to cut wages (which is why Yang's oppositon to a minimum wage coupled with his support of a UBI tells you part of the real motivation for his scheme).  Here's Pavlina Tcherneva (Director of the Jerome Levy Economics Institute of Bard College at the University of Cambridge) talking about how a BI could work coupled with an FJG:
